Barring any last minute changes, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, will begin a nationwide strike starting from today, December 18th.
The oil union in a statement released says the strike action is as a result of the deadlock meeting which the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, brokered between the union leadership and Neconde Energy Limited. PENGASSAN and the oil company have been in a battle after the company laid off some of its staff.
The oil union accused the company of dismissing its staff illegally and threatened to go on strike if the dismissed staff members of the company are not reinstated within 72 hours.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu and his Labor counterpart, Chris Ngige will this morning join top NNPC officials in a meeting with the leadership of PENGASSAN to see how the oil union can shelve the planned strike action.
